The other side of over 100,000 apps in the App Store – is the fact that developers, who just spent all their money on building an app, have to find a way to get seen by their target audience.
Well, I have no simple answer – but the next few weeks will reveal how we will go about releasing SongSuggest. Exciting times, but here is where the rubber meets the road.
Ok. Like anything else, we need a goal and an accompanying plan.
Goal: Sell as many downloads as possible… (duh). Let’s get specific. Sell 30,000 downloads. Yikes.
How many churches with worship leaders in North America (estimate): 300,000
How many worship leaders per church? Well most only have 1, but some have a quite a few more.
So lets call it 1.2 worship leaders per church. That means 360,000 worship leaders (seems high).
How many have iPhones or iPod Touches? Let’s say 2 out of 10. (From what I can tell in my circles, it’s probably more.)
That brings us to 72,000 worship leaders with iPhones. ok. So if we can get 40% of those to buy SongSuggest we’ll hit 30,000 downloads. Sure my numbers above are guestimates at best, some may be higher, others lower. But the point is that 30,000 is a high but not impossible number. Especially considering SongSuggest has no current competition.
Ok that’s the goal: 30,000+ downloads. Try get numbers for your target user – do this before you build… in case your potential market is too small to give you a return on your investment.
Ok. Time to go pray – not (just) out of fear, but God has a better grasp on how to do this than I do right now. We have a goal, that’s step 1, but without a plan, it means nothing. The plan(s) will be revealed here – soon, after we get going.
